Dr Kate Mclachlan

Dr. Kate McLachlan studied at the University of the Witwatersrand where she qualified in 1994. In 1995 she was employed as a Medical Officer in Paediatrics at Helen Joseph Hospital and wrote a Diploma in Paediatrics. After this, she was a partner in a General Practitioner practice for three years and then moved to the United Kingdom. There she worked in the Gynaecology Department at the Queen Elizabeth II hospital in Wellyn Garden City and wrote the Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and also a Diploma in Family planning at the Royal College. After this, she acquired extensive experience as a GP registrar in the NHS Cambridge Circuit and qualified to become a General Practitioner in the UK. 

 

She returned to South Africa in 2000 where she continued to work as a General Practitioner with a special interest in women’s health. She then moved to Somerset West where she opened up the Women’s Wellness Practice at Pastorie Park with Dr. Cathy Agnew in 2002.

 

Dr. Kate McLachlan has two daughters, Samantha and Stephanie. Kate is a Masters Swimmer and Biathlon competitor and also a keen recreational cyclist.

Dr Estée Struwig

Dr. Estée Struwig is originally from Richards Bay in KZN. She moved to the Western Cape to study MBChB at Stellenbosch University and graduated in 2015. After completing her internship and community service years, she was employed as a Medical Officer at Helderberg Hospital. During those years she rotated through Internal Medicine, Anaesthetics and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She has completed her diploma in Anaesthetics, a course in Aesthetic medicine and is due to complete her Obstetrics and Gynaecology diploma in early 2023.

Dr Struwig developed a special interest in Women's health and has, subsequent to Dr. Agnew's retirement, joined Dr. McLachlan at the practice to pursue a part of medicine that she is passionate about.

Dr. Estée Struwig and her husband lives in Somerset West. She spends time exploring the various hiking trails with her cocker spaniel, Ben. She is an aspiring gardner, does regular pilates and loves dancing.

Dr Struwig will be leaving the practice end of May 2024.

Dr Olivia Laing

Dr Olivia Laing is no stranger to Somerset West. Having grown up here, she studied at Stellenbosch University and obtained her MB, ChB in 2020. After completing her internship at Mitchell’s Plain District Hospital and her community service in rural Limpopo, she decided to move back to her hometown.

 

Through her studies and work years, she developed a passion for women’s health and learned the importance of an integrative and relational approach. She has thus completed courses to ensure she provides the best care she can in this regard.

 

Aside from work, Dr Olivia enjoys the outdoors as well as drawing and painting. She looks forward to joining the Women’s Wellness Practice in 2024.
